Second DGF "Young Investigators in Lipid Science" Meeting

10-11 May 2016, Duesseldorf, Germany

Dear Reader,

this (due to the success of the first meeting repeated) meeting is aimed at fostering collaboration between emerging scientists (young group leaders) active in different aspects of lipid science in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. To this end the meeting is limited to 30 participants. All participants are encouraged to give 15 min oral presentations on their research focus to enable active discussion and future fruitful collaboration between biologists, chemists, medical doctors and engineers from academy and industry with an interest in lipid science and lipid technology.

The meeting will take place at the BASF campus in Düsseldorf from 10-11 May 2016. Registration is free. The conference dinner and a part of the travel cost of the invited participants will be sponsored by the DGF. The location and coffee will be kindly provided by BASF.

Meeting language is English.
Further details can be found at here.

To apply for participation please send an email with a short description of your current position and research field to ruth.birner-gruenberger@medunigraz.at until 30 March 2016.

Poster Abstracts
The space for poster displays in the congress center is limited to roughly 230 posters, which is not sufficient to display all posters at all times.

Thus, the poster sessions will be split to allow the display of all posters.

All posters are already marked accordingly in the online version of the scientific programme.

New In case not all posterwalls will be needed to display the "Sunday only" posters, those walls will be available for Monday-to Wednesday posters on Sunday as well.
Check the status on arrival. If you determine that "your" wall is empty on Sunday, it is perfectly fine to hang your Mon-Wed poster from Sunday.

Additionally, we will offer to all poster authors to upload an .pdf of their poster to an E(lectronic)- poster display device which will be available for all delegates. If you have not received your access data yet please contact the headquarters.

The size of poster walls is 120 cm height and 95 cm width

Il Porcellino

Il Porcellino (Italian "piglet") is the local Florentine nickname for the bronze fountain of a boar. The fountain figure was sculpted and cast by Baroque master Pietro Tacca (1577–1640) shortly before 1634,following a marble Italian copy of a Hellenistic marble original, at the time in the Grand Ducal collections and today in display in the classical section of the Uffizi Museum. Porcellino The original, which was found in Rome and removed to Florence in the mid-16th century by the Medici, was associated from the time of its rediscovery with the Calydonian Boar of Greek myth.

Tacca's bronze was originally intended for the Boboli Garden, then moved to the Mercato Nuovo in Florence. The present statue is a modern copy, cast in 1998 by Ferdinando Marinelli Artistic Foundry and replaced in 2008, while Tacca's bronze is sheltered in the new Museo Bardini in Palazzo Mozzi.

Visitors to Il Porcellino put a coin into the boar's gaping jaws, with the intent to let it fall through the underlying grating for good luck, and they rub the boar's snout to ensure a return to Florence, a tradition that the English literary traveller Tobias Smollett already noted in 1766,which has kept the snout in a state of polished sheen while the rest of the boar's body has patinated to a dull brownish-green.

oils+fats: meeting place for the 'Who's Who' of the oils and fats industry

oils+fats

oils+fats is lining up for the start. On September 15, the 'International Trade Fair for Business, Technology and Innovations' will open at the MOC Veranstaltungscenter in Munich. At this three-day event, a total of 48 exhibitors from 17 countries will be presenting the latest trends, products and services for the oils and fats industry.

Innovation PlatformThe show also features an extensive supporting program for the trade. 'Science meets Industry' is the motto of the 'Innovations Platform' located in the exhibition hall itself. On day one of the fair, the supporting program takes a look at the global markets. Thomas Mielke, of ISTA Mielke GmbH - OIL WORLD, Hamburg, will be giving a lecture entitled 'Influence of the global market for oilseed on its production and processing in Europe'. On day two the focus is on biorefineries, and on day three the lectures will concentrate on the theme of automation.

The supporting program of oils+fats will again feature a 'Practical Short Course', spread over two days, directed at young professionals and newcomers. For more information, and to register, go to: www.smartshortcourses.com. Taking place for the first time as an integral part of oils+fats is the 8th International Symposium on Deep Frying, organized by Euro Fed Lipid. The symposium focuses on aspects that will promote a better understanding and optimization of the deep-fat frying process, in order to strengthen the market for fried products in the future.
