Dear Reader,

Cooperation and networking is the key to success. This is an experience, which I made frequently during my career. Cooperation defined in that sense as the interaction of two or more persons or systems for the benefit of all.

Since 1984 I have been a member of the German Society for Fat Research DGF - later a member of Euro Fed Lipid. For many years I was active in the committee 'GAFett' for analytical methods and in the year 1995 I founded my own company. All this was only possible through cooperation.

Through networks within the German Society for Fat Research and Euro Fed Lipid I have acquired a lot of knowledge, but at the same time I have given my experience and knowledge back. With this background our company was able to develop tailor-made software, especially for fat chemists which are now being used around the world.

The success story of cooperation goes on: our software Oil-Expert is now supported by Euro Fed Lipid! This will benefit Euro Fed Lipid members, the users of the software and comicon. This is where the circle closes again, with the realization that cooperation is the key to success. In this sense, I wish to encourage all readers to use the multitude of networking opportunities that Euro Fed Lipid offers to enhance your own career.

Antalya - Hiking and Skiing

Hikers will find a lot of options in Turkey in general and around Antalya to indulge their passion. Namely the Taurus mountains are a hiker's paradise:

Taurus Mountains are a mountain complex in southern Turkey, dividing the Mediterranean coastal region of southern Turkey from the central Anatolian Plateau. The system extends along a curve from Lake Eğirdir in the west to the upper reaches of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers in the east. It is a part of the Alpide belt in Eurasia. It has many peaks rising above 3,000–3,700 m,

The Saint Paul Trail is a long-distance footpath, approximately 500 kilometers long. The trail goes from Perge, 10 kilometers east of Antalya, to Yalvaç, Isparta, northeast of Lake Eğirdir. A second branch starts at the Oluk Köprüsü (Roman Bridge over the Köprülü River), 100 kilometers north-east of Antalya, and joins the main route at the ancient Roman site of Adada.

The name of the trail derives from the fact that a part of it follows the route of Saint Paul the Apostle on his first missionary journey to Anatolia. It starts at sea level and climbs to 2200 meters in elevation. It is marked along the way with red and white stripes to Grande Randonnée standards.

It may be somewhat surprising for many that close to Antalya you have also the option to do some skiing: Saklıkent is a short-season ski resort 50km west of Antalya (1hour by bus), in the Beydag mountain range. Saklıkent offers you the chance to ski and swim in the sea on the same day. The skiing at Saklıkent is on the lower slopes of Mount Bakırlı which is 2547m in height, allowing the season to often extend well into April.
