Euro Fed Lipid

Euro Fed Lipid Newsletter August 2010: Munich hotel contingent expires soon!

Dear Reader,
The Research Group on Lipidomics GERLI (Groupe d'Etude et de Recherche en Lipidomique) has been created in 1978. It is one of the two French scientific societies being members of Euro Fed Lipid.

The word "Lipidomics" was included in 2002 in our group name, as a new orientation, referring to a global approach for lipid studies. The aim of the Research Group on Lipidomics is the characterization and finding the function of all lipid molecules involved in biological and pathological processes.
This year, the 7th GERLI Lipidomics congress is entitled "Lipids in All States" and it is intended to discuss the state of the art in various domains, with particular emphasis in nutrition, health and industry. Ten sessions will contain theoretical as well as applied approaches and will be introduced by world-wide recognized speakers:
S1. Chemistry & physics of lipids
S2. Lipids & Brain
S3. Plant Lipids
S4. Industry & lipids
S5. Lipid-based vehicles for drug delivery
S6. Dietary Lipids & Health Effects
S7. Lipidomics & Lipid Metabolism
S8. Lipid Extraction & Analysis
S9. Hybrid Lipids
S10. Formulation & Bioavailability of Lipids
18 invited speakers (mostly from abroad) and 25 selected oral communications will constitute the framework of the congress. Two sessions of Poster presentations will also add in discussing late results.
The GERLI Lipidomics congress will be held from October 3-6 at Anglet (Biarritz), France. Conferences, as well as accommodations, will take place at Club Bellambra, a sea resort offering a superb view on the Atlantic Ocean, "La Chambre d'Amour" beach and the Biarritz lighthouse. The town of Anglet is well known for surfing spots, but it is also found in the heart of the Basque country, between sea and mountains, where French, Spanish Basque and Gascon influences have made a culturally very rich region.
We hope that this nice location and the scientific program will be attractive for all Euro Fed Lipid members and we are looking forward to welcoming you at Anglet on October 2010 for the 7th GERLI Lipidomics congress.
Please see for more details and please note that the deadline for final registration is September 2, 2010!

Munich: The English Garden

The English Garden is a large public park in the centre of Munich, stretching from the city centre to the northeastern city limits. It was created in 1789 by Sir Benjamin Thompson (1753-1814), later Count Rumford.

With an area of 3.7 km2 the Englisch Garden is one of the world's largest urban public parks, larger than New York's Central Park but smaller than London's Richmond Park.

The total length of paths and walkways is roughly 75 km (26 km roads, 36 km footpaths, 13 km bridlepaths)
. The length of streams imeasuring 8.75 km, crosed by over 100 bridges.

The name refers to the style of gardening; the term English garden is used outside of the English speaking world to refer to the style of informal landscape gardening which was popular in the United Kingdom from the mid 18th century to the early 19th century.

Its many attractions include a japanese teahouse, a japanese garden, the so called "Monopteros" and the chinese tower.

The "Seehaus im Englischen Garten" is Munich's second biggest beergarden, located on the shores of "Kleinhesseloher Lake". It offers 2600 seats.
