Euro Fed
Lipid Newsletter February 2010: Impact factor of EJLST continues to
increase Dear
Readers, This
year,
I look very
much forward to the 8th
Euro Fed Lipid Congress in Munich,
which
will take place November 21st-24th
2010. The
scientific
committee is already highly active in identifying top speakers to make
this
symposium as successful as the previous ones. Plenary lectures by
scientists
receiving Awards from Euro Fed Lipid, AFECG and DGF have been announced
already
and a range of keynote speakers can be found on the conference
website. I very
much encourage all of you to submit an abstract with your latest
research
results using the online submission system in due course to have it
considered
for a lecture or poster presentation in Munich. A second reason to
attend the
conference is of course the attractive social programme and the
wonderful city
of Munich itself. I very
much look forward to welcoming many of you to Munich in November!
Many
of
you might already know that the
official journal of Euro Fed Lipid, the Eur.
J. Lipid Sci. Technol. recently celebrated
its 10th
anniversary.
I am very happy about the opportunity to act as Editor-In-Chief for
this journal
dedicated to publish top research results in the area of fats, oils and
lipids.
The impact factor of EJLST continued to increase (the most recent
5-year
impact factor was 1.582), we have
seen a
significant raise in the total number of submissions and I feel very
pleased
that now more than 50% of all manuscripts come from outside Europe.
Thanks to
the untiring support of the Editorial and Advisory Board and the
excellent team
at the publisher Wiley-VCH, EJLST is now truely an international
journal with
excellent contributions from scientists around the world. I look
forward to its future
prospering in its next decade and even more exciting and innovative
manuscripts. Uwe

| A Must see!
Visit the
German Museum!
The Deutsches Museum
(German Museum) is the world's largest museum of technology and
science, with approximately 1.5 million visitors per year and about
28,000 exhibited objects from 50 fields of science and technology. The
museum was founded on June 28, 1903, at a meeting of the Association of
German Engineers (VDI) as an initiative of Oskar von Miller. The full
name of the museum in English is German Museum of Masterpieces of
Science and Technology. It is the largest museum in Munich.
The
Deutsches Museum possesses over 100 000 objects from the fields of
science and technology. The collections are not restricted to any
specialized range of topics: they include objects from mining to atomic
physics, from the Altamira cave to a magnified model of a human cell.
They extend from the Stone Age to the present time. Collecting
historically significant objects is still one of the Museum?s central
tasks, so that the stock is constantly growing.
Among
the particular highlights (besides many others!) are the first
motorized aircraft built by the Wright brothers, the U1 submarine, the
first program-controlled computer (Conrad Zuse's Z3), and Diesel's
original engine. | Photos:

European Symposium on Dietary
Fatty Acids and Health | |
| 4th European Symposium on Dietary Fatty
Acids and Health
03-04 March 2010, Frankfurt, Germany For
the fourth time we invite you to join us in Frankfurt to discuss the
very recent findings on dietary fatty acids and health. After a lecture
on lipotoxicity the presentations focus on cardiovascular disease and
its risk factors: What is the importance of milk lipids for coronary
heart disease? How are fatty acids involved in the pathogenesis of the
metabolic syndrome? Is there an impact of dietary fat on cardiac
function? The first day closes with a first presentation on Omega-3
fatty acids: Is there a role for mood regulation? The second day is
mainly devoted to Omega-3 fatty acids. After an initial lecture on
proven health effects it is tried to answer the question of whether
alpha-linolenic acid can replace longer Omega-3 fatty acids in the
diet. Further presentations focus on Omega-3 fatty acids and
inflammation and their role in cardiac risk modification in patients
with the metabolic syndrome. The conference closes
with a critical presentation on the transfer of scientific knowledge
into clinical practice. A limited number of
abstracts
dealing with dietary fatty acids and health can be accepted for poster
presentation. We encourage you to send us your abstract by February 15,
2010. You are heartily welcome at Frankfurt
for
extensive discussion. The Organizers
