15th Euro Fed Lipid Congress
Oil, Fats and Lipids: New Technologies and Applications for a Healthier Life
27-30 August 2017, Uppsala, Sweden
hosted by the Nordic Lipidforum

[updated 10.05.2016]

Dear Colleagues,
Nordic Lipidforum has the great honor to host the 15th Euro Fed Lipid Congress 27-30 August 2017 in Uppsala, Sweden.

The symposium will take place at the Uppsala Concert & Congress (UKK) located in the very city center of Uppsala, within short walking distance from the train station, all hotels and the historical center of Uppsala.

Some 1,500 years ago Uppsala was the power center of the land of the Swedes and an important place of worship; three viking kings were buried here in the 6th century. When Sweden had been Christianized, Uppsala was made an archbishopric in 1164, and became the religious center of Sweden.

Uppsala developed into a center for trade and learning, and Uppsala University was founded in 1477 as Scandinavia´s first university. World-renowned scientists such as Carl Linnaeus, Anders Celsius and Olof Rudbeck lived and carried out their work here. Sweden's first university hospital was founded in Uppsala already 1708 and is still one of Sweden's biggest hospitals. During the 20th century, 8 Nobel prize winners have been connected with Uppsala University! In its strive to always look for new innovative solutions, Uppsala also got a second University in 1977; The Swedish Agricultural University, SLU.

Uppsala as a university city today offers a vivid cultural environment and extraordinary student life. 50,000 students are seen, heard, and noticed everywhere. World-class research and high quality education pursued here benefit society and business on a global level. Uppsala today is a modern city and also houses several important governmental agencies, such as the National Veterinary Institute (SVA), the Swedish National Food Agency and the Medical Products Agency (MPA). Welcome to spend time in a dynamic setting that hosts a wide range of interesting activities. Although located very close to Stockholm, Uppsala has retained its small town charm, while offering a selection of cultural events, shops, and restaurants worthy a bigger city. An exciting history and unique cultural treasures are literally right around every corner. In Uppsala you visit an environment steeped in both tradition and the latest research.

The theme of the symposium reflects the great importance of oils, fats and lipids for a healthy life through its multiple functions in all aspects of human life and care. The Scientific committee and the Nordic Lipidforum warmly welcome all scientists with an interest in lipids to join the Euro Fed Lipid Congress in Uppsala in August 2017.

It's easy and convenient to get to and from Uppsala.
Uppsala is easily reached by train in just 35 minutes from Stockholm and 18 minutes from Stockholm (Arlanda) Airport.

To and from the airport, you can comfortably continue to Uppsala with both the airport buses and direct train, with departures from SkyCity. During the day, buses and trains depart twice an hour. And it is just as easy to travel between Uppsala and Stockholm.

If you wish to travel by taxi, the three largest taxi companies in Uppsala offer fixed prices for travel between Uppsala and Arlanda. If traveling by car from Stockholm or Arlanda Airport, follow E4 north towards Uppsala, following the signs towards Sundsvall. At Uppsala, take exit 186 towards Uppsala S and then follow the signs to the city.

If driving from Enköping, take Route 55 north. When you get to Uppsala, make a right at Enköpingsvägen and continue in to the city center.

From Gävle, take E4 south towards Uppsala/Stockholm. At Uppsala, take exit 188 towards 55/Strängnäs/288/Östhammar. At the first traffic circle, take the first exit onto Route 55/72 towards Strängnäs and then continue straight through the next traffic circle you come to. From there, follow the signs in to the city.

Congress Dinner: 29. August 2017 at the former hall of state at Uppsala castle.

Dinner Gustav Vasa began construction of Uppsala Slott in 1549, and the castle was destined to play a major role for many years in the history of Sweden and of Uppsala.

The castle was seriously damaged by fire in 1702, being reduced essentially to a ruin. Reconstruction took many years, and was indeed hampered by the remains of the castle being used as a quarry for stone to be used in building Stockholm Palace.

The building was the administrative centre of Uppland for many years, and is today the residence of the County Governor of Uppsala County.

Rikssalen, the former Hall of State, whose uses have included that of drying closet for the governor's wife, was restored in 1932 and is now Uppsala's most glittering festive location.

Ticketed event, preregistration required.

Uppsala has a humid continental climate, with cold winters and mild summers. Due to its northerly location, Uppsala experiences over 18 hours of visible sunshine during the summer solstice,
On a circa 35-metre high hill to the southwest of the city center stands Uppsala Castle. Its construction was initiated in 1549 by King Gustav Vasa, founder of the Vasa royal dynasty. Today the castle holds several museums, and is the residence of the Governor.
