On behalf of the Organizing Committee of 12th Euro Fed Lipid Congress we are honored to welcome you to Montpellier.
This congress will be a wonderful forum to discuss and exchange with delegates from Europe and worldwide on many topics
and new discoveries dealing with lipids, oils and fats.
From lipidomics to industrial innovation, the congress will address 17 different topics favoring networking with colleagues
from academic or industrial sectors and share up-to-date information. Special sessions related to molecular and cell
biology, nutrition, lipids and health, analytics, physical chemistry, oleochemistry, oilseeds and plant lipids, marine,
plant and animal lipids and many others will take place during this congress.
On that occasion, the two French societies dedicated to lipid science and technology, GERLI and SFEL, will combine their efforts
to assist the scientific committee to establish an attractive program for the Euro Fed Lipid congress.
We will meet in Montpellier, a very attractive city in the Languedoc region in Southern France, known for its 2000
years of history. The Mediterranean coast here was settled by the Greeks, Phoenicians and Romans and many archeological sensations like
the Pont du Gard are still perfectly preserved.
Beside its role as a major spot for summer vacations in the mediterranean, Languedoc is also a significant producer of wine.
To add to the natural advantages, the Camargue with its wild horses, flamingoes and bulls is literally next door.
We look forward to welcoming you to Montpellier for the 12th Euro Fed Lipid Congress from 14th to 17th of September 2014.

the fully updated "Fundamentals of Oil Processing" program. This follows after successful programs in 2013 on Fish Oil (Santiago de Chile),
Oilseeds, Oils & Fats (Munich, Germany), Oil Analytical Methods (Antalya, Turtkey), Palm Oil (Panama City, Panama) and Best practices (Dubai, U.A.E.)
This 1.5-day short course will bring together industry experts from around the world offering practical information on oilseed and oil processing
and quality issues and how to integrate these in downstream products. The program is directed everyone who needs to refresh their Oils and Fats
knowledge including new and experienced plant engineers, chemists, technicians, managers, and superintendents.

The Montpellier Mediterranee International Airport is located just 8 km from the city center. The drive takes around ten minutes.
It is easy to get from the airport to downtown Montpellier by taxi or shuttle-bus service.

Most international flights flights arrive in Paris with short connecting flights to Montpellier. However there are direct
and regular services to Brussels, Frankfurt-Hahn, London Madrid and Marrakech.
Since Montpellier is connected to the high speed train system TGV it may be an alternative to travel by train. The Montpellier
Saint-Roch train station is located right in the center of town, just 200 meters from the Place de la Comedie. You can get
to all Montpellier districts by taking the two local tramway lines, as well as by bus or taxi.
Montpellier is served by A9 and A75 motorways.

Montpellier is one of the few large cities in France without a (Gallo-)Roman background.
It came to prominence in the 10th century as a trading centre, with trading links across the Mediterranean
world and a rich Jewish cultural life and traditions of tolerance of its Muslims, Jews and Cathars and later of its
Protestants. William VII of Montpellier established a faculty of medicine in 1180, recognised by Pope Nicholas IV;
the city's university was established in 1220 and was one of the chief centers for the teaching of medicine.
Montpellier gained a charter in 1204 when Peter and Marie confirmed the city's traditional freedoms and granted the city
the right to choose twelve governing consuls annually. Montpellier remained a possession of the crown of Aragon until it
passed to James III of Majorca, who sold the city to the French king Philip VI in 1349, to raise funds for his ongoing struggle
with Peter IV of Aragon. In the 14th century, Montpellier gained a church (not yet a cathedral) dedicated to Saint Peter,
noteworthy for its very unusual porch.
At the time of the Reformation in the sixteenth century, many of the inhabitants of Montpellier became Protestants
(or Huguenots as they were known in France) and the city became a stronghold of Protestant resistance to the Catholic
French crown. In 1622, King Louis XIII besieged the city and took it after eight months, in the Siege of Montpellier,
afterwards building the Citadel of Montpellier to secure it.
During the 19th century the city developed into an industrial centre. In the 1960s, its population grew dramatically after
French settlers in Algeria were resettled in the city following Algeria's independence from France. In the 1980s and 1990s,
the city drew attention with a number of major redevelopment projects, such as the Corum and especially the Antigone District.

The city is situated on hilly ground 10 kilometres inland from the Mediterranean coast on the River Lez. The name of the city,
which was originally Monspessulanus, is said to have stood for mont pele (the naked hill, because the vegetation was poor),
or le mont de la colline (the mount of the hill)
Montpellier has a Mediterranean climate, with mild, somewhat wet winters, and very warm,
rather dry summers. In September you can expect an average high temperature of 24.8 degree and an average low of 14.5 degree.
