22nd International Symposium on Plant Lipids
03-08 July 2016, Goettingen, Germany

Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to attend the 22nd International Symposium on Plant Lipids to be held in the City of Goettingen, Germany.

The scientific program will present contributions from the most important topics in plant lipid research, such as seed oil formation, function of lipids in biotic and abiotic stress as well as their formation in algae and other microorganisms. Key note lectures will allow glimpses into exciting areas of lipid research hitherto not included in plant lipid meetings. Moreover, short talks will be selected from submitted abstracts. These will be supplemented by two poster sessions.

We hope that the venue will provide plant lipid researches an exciting four and a half days. We look forward to seeing you in Goettingen.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee,

Poster Abstracts
The space for poster displays in the congress center is limited to roughly 230 posters, which is not sufficient to display all posters at all times.

Thus, the poster sessions will be split to allow the display of all posters.

All posters are already marked accordingly in the online version of the scientific programme.

New In case not all posterwalls will be needed to display the "Sunday only" posters, those walls will be available for Monday-to Wednesday posters on Sunday as well.
Check the status on arrival. If you determine that "your" wall is empty on Sunday, it is perfectly fine to hang your Mon-Wed poster from Sunday.

Additionally, we will offer to all poster authors to upload an .pdf of their poster to an E(lectronic)- poster display device which will be available for all delegates. If you have not received your access data yet please contact the headquarters.

The size of poster walls is 120 cm height and 95 cm width

Congress Dinner Florence

The congress dinner takes place Tuesday, 29 September 2015, 19:30 at the Palazzo Borghese, Via Ghibellina 110 (walking distance 1,5 km from the congress center)

borghese In the heart of the ancient Florence, a few steps from Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo Borghese is one of the most important examples of neoclassical architecture in Tuscany. Even if it still has a impressive facade, this palace is often unnoticed, because of the street's narrowness. Once you have entered the Palazzo, its beauty and splendor are dazzling.

The Main Stair brings you to a floor where you will find the Sala Specchi (the Mirror Room), the ancient bedroom of Paolina Bonaparte. This beautiful room gets its name from the ten pure gold large mirrors, framed by golden stuccos and surrounded by chandeliers which multiply the perspectives and reflect the flashing of the big central chandelier, with 150 torches totally made of golden wood and Boemia glass. From the Mirror Room (Sala degli Specchi), through the Red Room, the Apostle's Room (with a curious fireplace Impero Style) and the Yellow Room, you reach the Galleria Monumentale, the real jewel of the palace. All the Salotti Monumentali are finely furnished, everyone in a different color. Corner sofas stuffed with flowered satin and elegant golden wooden "consolles" perfectly fit with the painted vaults of the rooms.

The Sala del Consiglio is characterized by a curious fireplace "Impero Style". Twelve chairs with a typical back remind us of ancient meetings. The Galleria Monumentale can be used for a banquet of 300 people The Sala degli Specchi will hold a maximum of 100 people. The other smaller rooms can hold from 10-50 people. For the more important events with a bigger number of participants it is possible to use the entire palace for a max. of 550 people. The last restoration during 1994, has finally brought back the palace to his ancient splendor, giving it moreover all those kind of comforts which are necessary to make it a functional, elegant meeting location.

Registration is required.
Price: 90 Euro + VAT (where applicable)

8th International Symposium on Deep-fat frying is intended for all persons from food producers, sciences, official and commercial laboratories, marketing and consumers who are involved into the production of fried food, research on the frying process or the assessment of used frying oils or interested in deep-fat frying in general. The aim of the symposium is to provide the participants with new information on frying and to discuss the latest findings in order to make the market of fried products fit for the future.

Information and Registration

Two booths left. Act fast!

we are pleased to offer a very cost effective all-inclusive package for companies active in the area of deep-frying which have not exhibited before at the oils&fats trade fair.

Euro Fed Lipid has negotiated a joint Deep-Frying exhibition space within the main oils&fats trade show. This space will host all social/networking events (Welcome reception, Bavarian evening, coffee breaks, lunch breaks) of the Deep-Frying symposium, which takes place in the upper level of the building.

Max Rubner Conference 2015
High quality fats and oils for a healthier and safer nutrition
5 – 7 October 2015, Karlsruhe, Germany

Fats and oils belong to the most important constituents in human nutrition not only from a nutritional point of view but also with respect to the palatability of food. They contain essential fatty acids and vitamins as well as other valuable minor components with some nutritional effect. In addition, they also have a strong capability to retain flavouring agents and they are responsible for the formation of aroma-active compounds during food processing typical for different kinds of food.

We invite you to participate in this inspiring conference, to meet colleagues from other institutions and countries, to discuss current problems, and to inform yourself about the latest developments in the area of fats and oil.

Argan oil – A special product from the Moroccan market
Characteristics, production, application and trade

21. October 2015, Frankfurt, Germany

Argan oil is becoming increasingly popular in high-cuisine for the preparation of food and high-end personal-care products.
The oil, produced from the almonds of the argan tree (Argania spinosa L.), is obtained in endemic production in Morocco in cooperatives organized by Amazighe women.

Two different qualities of Argan oil are on the market. The argan oil for cosmetic purposes is obtained from unroasted almonds while for the production of edible argan oil the almonds are roasted to obtain the typical nutty and roasted taste and smell of the edible oil. Since quality aspects are becoming more and more important for customer buying decisions, it is necessary for producers and marketers of argan oil to have comprehensive knowledge regarding aspects that can negatively impair the quality of oils during processing, storage and transportation. This includes the oxidative state and shelf-life of the oils, contaminants but above all the sensory quality since only oils that meet the expectations of the consumer will have success on the market. This is especially true for a high-price product such as argan oil.

EJLST Highlights September

Lipidomics for clinical applications: New quantitative HT platform [OpenAccess]
ejlst1 Basic lipid analysis including cholesterol and TAG is a standard part of blood tests that most of us have had done. However, human plasma lipidome comprises hundreds of physiologically important lipid species. Quantitative and comprehensive analysis is needed for accurate diagnosis and eventually for treatment of metabolic and other diseases, but currently used technology does not allow that. The paper by Surma and colleagues is an important step forward because it presents a new, automated, high-throughput approach to quantitative lipid profiling of human blood plasma which can be done in a single, 5 minute acquisition (!) and can be implemented in different laboratories without compromising reproducibility. It is therefore well suited for large studies. The method has a broad coverage (>200 lipid species) and can achieve absolute quantification important for clinical applications and biomarker research.

The health claim on “olive oil polyphenols” [FREE]
EJLST 2 Thousands of applications for health claims have been submitted to the European Food Safety Authority but few have been authorized so far. In the current issue of EJLST, Maria Tsimidou and Dimitrios Boskou highlight the need for meaningful terminology and effective analytical protocols.

Biomimicry – An approach to engineering oils into solid fats
EJLST 3 The Feature by Wang and Rogers illustrates the potential of biomimicking intercellular lipid assemblies in stratum corneum as a strategy to create solid edible oils that are free of trans fats and are healthier than fats based on saturated triacylglycerols.
