Compositional Analysis of Oils and Fats
The Italian Society for Fat Research (SISSG), established in 1960, started in 1963 to award scientists who significantly contribute in the advancement of the scientific knowledge on fatty matrices.
The award was entitled to prof. Stefano Fachini, first director of the Stazione Sperimentale per le Industrie degli Oli e dei Grassi (SSOG) in Milan (Italy).
In 2013, the managing board of SSOG has decided to award dr. Carlo Mariani from SSOG in Milan (Italy). Dr. Mariani is a worldwide well-known lipids chemist, he began working at the SSOG in 1963, he did a short experience in a private company between 1976 and 1981, but in 1981 came back to work at the SSOG.
Dr. Mariani is member of the UE olive oil expert group and of the Chemist group of the International Olive Council. His research expertises covered a wide range of topics into the lipochemistry field and were mainly focused to analytical methods improvement and development.
Most of the official methods for olive oils quality and purity control were developed by dr.Mariani as well as many analytical approaches suitable to assess purity of several fatty substances, both edible and for industrial purposes.
He cooperates with a large number of scientists all over the world and he often coordinates proficiency tests involving laboratories located worldwide.
Additional Poster Abstracts are welcome until Mid October 2013!
Feel cordially invited to submit your poster abstract online at the congress webpage.
It is now the prefect time to register for the congress and to book accommodation through the congress webpage
We strongly recommend to book your hotel room at the Kervansaray hotel and through our webpage, because transportation from other hotels is not offered and may be difficult to obtain and/or expensive.
Due to the all-inclusive business model, the hotels in Antalya usually expect their guests to stay on their ground for activities and meals.
If you need additional nights before or after the congress simply book three nights through the webpage and let us know your additional requirements.
Since congress registrations come in quickly these days we forecast the hotel to be fully booked at some point, so why not reserve your room today, better safe than sorry?

Fortress and Yacht Harbour
The ancient city center enclosed by the sea and land walls is today called the "Kale Ici" (Inner Bailey). The streets and buildings still bear the marks of Antalya's history. The characteristic of the houses do not lie only in their architecture but reflect the living habits, customs and social ways of the inhabitants of ancient Antalya and are thus a valuable source of information.
This is one of the best preserved monuments in Antalya. This Roman edifice was built in 130 A.D. to honor the Emperor Hadrian. Formerly the city walls enclosed the outside of the gate and it was not used for many years. This may be the reason why it has not been destroyed, and it was only revealed when the walls collapsed. It is considered as Pamphylia's most beautiful Gate. The upper part has three apertures in the shape of a cupola, and except for the pillars is built entirely of white marble. The ornamentation is very striking. The original Gate was two storeys but little is known of the top storey.
This tower, which has a square base surmounted by a cylindrical edifice, can be seen at the southern most point of the land walls. Belonging to ancient times, there is a large square block in the interior. The tower is a very solid building and, from the shape of the inside, it is thought to have been used for defense or to send out signals by lighting a fire.
The Fluted Minaret is one of the first Muslim edifices in Antalya and is an 18th century work of the Seljuk period. Its base is of hewn stone and the trunk of bricks and turquoise colored tiles, and it has eight grooves. This minaret has now become the symbol of Antalya. It is 38 meters high and the top is reached by 90 steps.

The deadline for registration to the 6th European Symposium on Plant Lipids is approaching! After June 6th, the fees will increase to 300€!
You have the opportunity to present as a poster your last results during the 6th European Symposium on Plant Lipids, (ESPL), which will be held in Bordeaux from July 7th to 10.
The scientific program will include 9 sessions covering all the different areas of lipid research (see preliminary program on the web site http://www.eurofedlipid.org/meetings/bordeaux2013). Don't pass the opportunity to present and to share your research with your colleagues and submit rapidly your abstract. You will find all instructions for abstract submission, registration and accommodation on the web site (http://www.eurofedlipid.org/meetings/bordeaux2013).
We hope that this venue in Bordeaux will provide highlighted plant lipid researches an exciting two and a half days meeting as well as god opportunities for exchanges and collaborations. We look forward to seeing you in Bordeaux.

Het Pand Conference Centre, Ghent, Belgium
Thursday 20 - Friday 21 June 2013
Organised by SCI’s Lipids Group in Collaboration with Ghent University and Euro Fed Lipid Physical Properties Division
Information and Registration
This conference will cover the developments in the analysis and characterisation of the major components of lipids, oils and fats, such as fatty acids and triglycerides, and minor components such as sterols, and the advances in the tools used to generate and interpret whole lipid profiles e.g. lipidomics. The recent developments in the detection of contaminants of oils & fats, such as 3-MCPD esters and Glycidyl esters, will also be presented. Internationally recognised experts will present information on the techniques used to analyse components that are of interest to the lipids, oils & fats industry, food manufacturers & producers and researchers in this field.
This event is aimed at anyone working with oils, fats and lipids including processors, manufacturers, food companies and researchers and will be of particular interest to those involved in the analysis of lipids for QC, regulatory, research and investigative / consultancy purposes.
