Euro Fed Lipid Newsletter May 2009: Make sure to arrange your trip to Graz in time!
Dear Lipid Scientists,

It is time to invite you to join us at the 6th GERLI Lipidomics meeting "Bioactive lipids, Nutrition and Health" in Rennes (France), 1-3 July 2009. This meeting will focus on the  following five major topics:
The 1st session "From methods for modification of lipid metabolism to lipid-modified organisms" will report on a large panel of vectors used to modified lipid metabolism in various organisms and describe the purposes of these modifications.
The 2nd session "New regulation and signal functions for saturated fatty acids" will update the list of biochemical and physiological functions that individual saturated fatty acids are able to produce.
In the 3rd session "Bioactive synthetic lipids for imaging", the synthesis of lipid probes and the use of these new tools will be described.
The 4th session "Marine lipids, physiological and pharmacological roles" will focus on the growing list of functions associated with new discovered marine lipid molecules.
Finally, the last session "From physiological functions to fatty acid dietary recommendations in humans" will give an idea of the current reassessment in several countries of the nutritional dietary recommendations for fatty acids.
The deadline for abstract submission and early registration fees is 15 May 2009.
We would also like to take advantage of the opportunity to remind the lipid community that GERLI (Groupe d' Etudes et de Recherches en Lipidomique) is an academic society devoted to promoting research in lipidomics. It is one of the groups linked to the French Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, in addition it is also a member of  Euro Fed Lipid. Since 1978, GERLI has been a driving force in the field of basic lipid biochemistry and physiology. During the last years, this society has been promoting lipidomics in various ways. An annual meeting is organized, which updates the last knowledge in lipid structures and molecular mechanisms involved in various physiopathologies. The GERLI society also gives awards each year to several doctoral thesis in order to encourage young scientists in the field.
We would be pleased to meet you in Rennes next July.

The scientific programme is now published and available via

Confirmation letters to authors were mailed out on 14 April and should have arrived in the meantime. If you have submitted a lecture or poster and still have not received a confirmation letter please contact the headquarters.

The programme consists of 5 plenary lectures, 20 keynote lectures and 170 other lectures. We apologise that due to limited time slots availabe the committee was forced to ask a considerable number of authors to present their results as poster.

Posters are still being accepted for presentation. The submission shall stay open until mid September to allow last-minute posters.

It is now the right time to register for the congress and to make your travel arrangements. Currently, flights to Graz in October are still very affordable, which may change during summer.

To stimulate communication between specialists in a field among the members, Euro Fed Lipid is in the process of setting up divisions on specific topics within the science and technology of Lipids, Fats and Oils or of public interest in this field. Participation is open to every Euro Fed Lipid member. If you are a Euro Fed Lipid member and are interested in joining one or more divisions free of charge, please inform the headquarters.
