Euro Fed Lipid is a
scientific and technological
network which is based on its members, both individual and corporate.
Its strength is the multitude of scientific topics represented and its
true internationality. The majority of members have gained
this status automatically by their membership in one of the 11
constituting national societies ("indirect members"), but
there is also a growing number of individuals becoming direct members
without being a member of a national association.
Both types
of members
enjoy the same benefits and rights, however, the communication between
Euro Fed Lipid and its "indirect" members should now intensify. The
headquarter has started to improve the membership
administration by incorporating the "indirect" members
directly,
but this
process may take some time. You can help us in building up this
improved
administration quicker and more effectively: If you are an "indirect"
member and feel that your address data and membership status need an
update, please contact the headquarters with the update.
If
you are not
a member, why don't you join today and start to enjoy the many

| The submission of volunteer
lectures is finalised now. However, poster abstracts are still very
welcome and can be submitted until early October.
The
committee is currently preparing the lecture programme, which will be
published mid-April on the conference webpage. Authors can expect to
get confirmation letters soon after. We would like to apologize in
advance that due to the limited space only 170 submissions can been
accepted as lectures, so that many authors will
unfortunately be asked to present a poster instead.
The
motto of the congress is "From Knowledge
to Application" emphasizing the most important link between basic and
applied research. The mutual interest of people from academics and
industry in lipid science and fats & oils technology has always
been the driving force of this conference series which started 2000.
The
industrial, medical and biological relevance of lipids and oils is
firmly established, but molecular details of how these molecules
mediate their function remained obscure in many instances. Recent
advances in biotechnology, biochemistry, lipidomics, metabolomics and
bioinformatics as well as industrial and biomedical applications led to
much progress in the field aimed at the benefit of humans. To address
the various academic and industrial aspects of lipidology, four main
themes were chosen for the Euro Fed Lipid Congress 2009 in Graz, namely
Lipid Sources, Lipid Technology, Lipid Bioscience and Lipids in Health
and Nutrition.

The
Dinner is

The
University of Graz was originally accommodated in the college rooms of
the Jesuit College (Seminary) until 1607 when the lecture theatres
moved to a new building at the centre of Graz. The foundation stone was
laid by the Archduke Ferdinand II of Styria and the original features
of the university building have been largely preserved to this very
day. From historic accounts we know that rhetoric, poetry, physics and
logic were taught in the lecture theatres on the ground floor. The two
large rooms on the upper floor were used as an Aula (auditorium) and as
a theatre.
Between 1778-1781 the
upper floor was converted. A major conversion gave rise to a large
library. A further smaller wooden addition created a small library
which still exists.
The picture
still presented by the hall today is that of the former library. |
