This year is unique for the European Federation for the Science and Technology of Lipids, we have a jubilee, the 10th Euro Fed Lipid Congress. This year the place to be is Cracow,
where the great opportunity to discuss what we – lipids’ people – should advice to Europe and to the world, will arise. We will discuss what we know, what we do not know and what we
need to know about lipids in the future. Every Section should prepare a short statement about current knowledge and recommendations for the future: what should be done, what problems
should be solved, which goals should be achieved.

We should also discuss important lipid problems for Europeans, such as fats and oils labelling (saturated, trans fatty acids, omega-3 ), bad fat taxes, safety of fats and oils from GMO plants,
a European system of safety examination of fried fats & oils, as well as the future of biodiesel, biotechnology of lipids, fully refined vs. cold pressed/virgin oils, functional fats and oils and
related material, fish oil and feed for fish farming  among many others. This is why we need your voice, your opinion and your share in our final statements. Join us and be part of it.

The Congress title is: “From Science and Technology to Health”. There is no doubt that lipids are of great influence to our health. Probably, they are the most important among all food nutrients.
Moreover, the influence of lipids can be extremely good but also extremely bad.  Lipid Science and Technology should relate to health issues and this is reflected in all main Congress topics.
Discussion is needed to make our raw materials, processing, biotechnology  more healthy and safer for the natural environment.

The location of the 10th Euro Fed Lipid Congress is unique: Cracow. The City's magic consists of the unique mix of architecture, art and historical places. Every year Cracow is visited by over 7 million tourists.
Our host, Jagiellonian University – is one of the oldest universities around the world (established in 1364). Additionally we have prepared for you great trips to interesting and beautiful places around Cracow.
The most important is visit to Nazi Camp Auschwitz Birkenau, place which has to be visited by every human being. Another trip is to one of the most beautiful places in the world: the Wieliczka salt mine.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received on or before 3 August 2012 will be refunded minus a 50 Euro processing fee. After that date until 9 September 2011, 50% of the registration fee will be refunded. There will be no refund for cancellations after 7 September 2012 or No-Shows. Substitute participants can be named anytime without costs.
If the congress is cancelled for whatever reason, paid fees will be refunded. Further recourse is excluded.

Cracow is one of the largest and oldest cities in Poland and a popular tourist destination. Its historic centre was inscribed on the list of World Heritage Sites as the first of its kind. Situated on the Vistula river  in the Lesser Poland region, the city dates back to the 7th century. Cracow has traditionally been one of the leading centres of Polish academic, cultural and artistic life, and is one of Poland's most important economic centres. It was the capital of Poland from 1038 to 1596  and the capital of the Grand Duchy of Cracow from 1846 to 1918 as part of the Austro Hungarian Empire.. The Austrian rule in Cracow ended on 31 October 1918, when the Polish Liquidation Committee assumed power. With the emergence of the Second Polish Republic, Cracow restored its role as a major academic and cultural centre with the establishment of new universities  It became an important cultural centre for the Polish Jews with a Zionist youth movement relatively strong among the city's Jewish population. Cracow was also an influential centre of Jewish spiritual life, with all its manifestations of religious observance from Orthodox, to Chasidic and Reform flourishing side by side. After the invasion of Poland by Germany and the Sowjet Union in the Second World War, Cracow was turned into the capital of Germany's General Government. The Jewish population of the city were moved into a walled zone known as the Cracow Ghetto, from which they were sent to extermination camps such as Auschwitz. Roman Polanski, the film director, was a survivor of the Ghetto, and Oskar Schindler, the German businessman portrayed in the Steven Spielberg film Schindler's List, selected employees from the Ghetto to work in his enamelware plant, thus saving them from the camps. Cracow remained relatively undamaged at the end of World War II. After the war, under the Stalinist regime, the intellectual and academic community of Cracow was put under total political control. The universities were soon deprived of their printing rights as well as their autonomy. The communist government of the People's Republic of Poland ordered construction of the country's largest steel mill in the newly-created suburb of Nowa Huta.The creation of the giant Lenin Steelworks  sealed Cracow's transformation from a university city to an industrial centre. The new working class, drawn by the industrialization of the city, contributed to its rapid population growth.  In 1978, UNESCO placed Cracow on the list of World Heritage Sites. In 2004 Poland became a member of the European Union.
