Dear Colleagues,
As you may have noticed, the deadline for submitting contributions to the 26th ISF-Congress (http://www.isfnet.org/) this year in Prague has been extended until the end of February. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide a final program of the sessions yet, but we can give you a taste of the topics to be included in the "Lipids in Animal Science" sessions at this stage,: Our goal is to have three sessions dedicated to the following topics
Paolo Colombani will give a talk on animal fats as part of a healthy diet and John Wallace will talk about "Mechanisms and inhibition of biohydrogenation of fatty acids in the rumen". In addition two these two invited talks there will be two or three short papers selected from the submitted abstracts. We are specifically interested including talks on the effect of feeding on composition and quality of fat in animal products. The second session is planned to be composed of short talks covering animal nutrition and metabolism topics including a wide range of species from fish over poultry to mammals. In the third session, Dale Baumann, Michael DeVeth, Teruyoshi Yanagita, Euridice Castañeda-Gutiérrez, and Mikko Griinari, will give talks on the state of the art involving nutritional use of CLA.
As mentioned above, you still have the possibility to submit contributions/abstracts to make the Lipids in Animal Science sessions even more interesting.
We wish you all the best

Information Letter to the Members of the Division 21. December 2004:
Dear Colleagues in the
field of lipid research in animal science,
In an attempt to set up a member data base for the "Lipids in Animal
Science Division" I like to suggest the following structure for address
details and additional information about field of work as well as
research facilities and resources. Please feel free to contact me for
any suggestion to improve this structure, I will appreciate every
comment. The plan is to send the finally resulting structure around to
those who might be interested putting their details in the member data
base in the beginning of 2005. Best regards and a happy New Year.

Information Letter to the Members of the Division 10. November 2004:
Dear Colleagues in the field of lipid research in animal science
It is now about two month
ago that we had the satellite-workshop about the Lipids in Animal
Science Division of the Euro Fed Lipid - high time to send the minutes
round and to inform those who could not be present in Edinburgh but are
interested in this division.
In brief, those present agreed to propose the name "Division of Lipids
in Animal Science" and to ask the Euro Fed Lipid Council for adoption
of this division. As can be seen from the Euro Fed Lipid web-page, the
council followed these propositions.
It was also agreed to start structuring this division by first setting
up a member data base, which should contain e.g. the field of
research/work, specific expertise and special equipment of each working
group interested to join. We will work on a template which can be used
for putting in these data.
This data base should be accessible for Euro Fed Lipid members
(password protected) via the web-page. Dr. Frank Amoneit kindly
accepted to help to set up this data base and to maintain it. In a
further step, a committee in which the various fields of lipids in
animal sciences will be represented can be developed.
At first, it was decided not to organise own symposia or congresses,
but to meet at least within the frame of the Euro Fed Lipid congress.
At this point I like to emphasize that the ISF Congress 2005 in Prague (www.isfnet.org) provides a topic
"Lipids and Animal Sciences" and I encourage everybody working in this
field to put in contributions until 15th of January 2005 to make this
an interesting and successful topic which could include all aspects not
only "from feed to food" but also e.g. "from feed to fuel".
Finally I would like to ask you to forward this mail to colleagues who
might be interested and are not on the mailing list (attached). They
should inform me, if they like to be included.
On the other hand, please let me know if I should delete your e-mail
address from the list.
In the meantime, Frank Amoneit has set up a page for our Animal
Division, which can be used for spreading information (http://www.eurofedlipid.org/divisions/lias.htm).
This letter e.g. will appear there.
We are open for any suggestions making the Animal Division a useful
tool.
I wish you all the best (and particularly a fat goose for St. Martin's
day)
Martin Scheeder
